TIRUCHY, Sept 15, 2025 – Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) General Secretary Vaiko has vowed to work tirelessly to ensure the victory of the DMK-led alliance in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Addressing a state-level party conference in Tiruchy, the veteran leader reaffirmed his party’s unwavering commitment to the Dravidian cause and promised to mobilize grassroots support to secure a resounding win for the Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA).

Speaking to a large gathering of MDMK cadres and office bearers, Vaiko praised the achievements of the DMK-led government and urged party workers to collaborate closely with alliance partners to strengthen the coalition's hold across the state.

“The DMK government has fulfilled most of its promises despite the hostile attitude of the Union government. We must work together at the booth level to ensure that this progress continues,” he said to loud applause.

Grassroots Strategy and Booth-Level Mobilisation

Vaiko emphasized the importance of strengthening booth committees and building effective coordination between MDMK and DMK cadres at the ward and village levels. He called for immediate activation of local-level units and asked district secretaries to submit progress reports to the party headquarters within the next month.

“Elections are won not in press meets or rallies alone, but through tireless grassroots work. Booth-level committees are the backbone of our strategy,” he said.

The MDMK leader highlighted the importance of unity within the alliance and insisted that all members of the coalition must function as one force to counter what he called the "anti-democratic and centralising tendencies" of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Union government.

Criticism of the Union Government

Vaiko accused the Union government of attempting to erode the federal structure of the country and discriminating against opposition-ruled states, particularly Tamil Nadu. He expressed concern over the Centre’s financial policies, alleging that funds due to Tamil Nadu were being withheld for political reasons.

“The Centre is punishing Tamil Nadu for rejecting its ideology. Funds are being cut, rights are being denied, and policies are being forced on us without consultation. We must stand united against this,” he declared.

He also criticized the recent electoral roll changes and alleged that attempts were being made to manipulate voter lists by including migrant workers without valid documentation.

Reaffirmation of Dravidian Values

In a passionate tribute to Dravidian icon C.N. Annadurai, Vaiko underscored the ideological foundations of the MDMK. He reiterated the party’s commitment to secularism, social justice, and state autonomy — the core values of the Dravidian movement.

Vaiko credited former DMK leader C.N. Annadurai for pioneering the two-language policy, which he said played a critical role in protecting Tamil identity and promoting employment for Tamil youth.

“We must never forget that our language, our culture, and our autonomy are constantly under threat. This election is not just about votes — it is about defending who we are,” he said.

Internal Strength and Party Recognition

Vaiko acknowledged that some individuals had left the MDMK in recent years but maintained that the party remains strong and committed. He urged party members to remain disciplined and focused, and announced that steps would be taken to ensure that the MDMK receives official recognition as a state party before the 2026 elections.

“We are not shaken by those who have left us. Our commitment is ideological, not opportunistic. Recognition will come, and so will victory,” he said.

Call for Unity and Vigilance

In closing, Vaiko called on all alliance partners to remain united, vigilant, and committed to democratic principles. He warned against complacency and said the months leading up to the election would be crucial.

“Our strength lies in unity. Let us not let petty differences divide us. The people are watching. They will reward those who stand for justice and progress,” he concluded.

The MDMK’s strong reaffirmation of support is seen as a significant boost for the DMK-led front, as Tamil Nadu heads into what is expected to be a high-stakes political battle in 2026.
